Businesses can improve their sustainability by being mindful of the packaging they use for their products, as well as realizing the impact of the materials their suppliers use when delivering the products used by the business itself.
The right mix of materials includes being aware of how best to dispose of a material when it is no longer needed. A large contributor to plastic waste is the material used to wrap pallets of goods delivered to restaurants and grocery chains.
Another source is the bags used by customers when they buy fruits and vegetables at the supermarket.
Today, large instituions such as hospitals and universities compost food waste. Compostable dinnerware and utensils are available that can be disposed of in the same containers used for food waste, streamlining the operation.
The New Jersey Straw law is now in effect. The rest of the legislation aimed at limiting single-use plastics went into effect May 4, 2022
